Came across an interesting quote: If it’s made from a plant, eat it. If it’s made in a plant, don’t.
Interesting street names–a number or a letter followed by 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and we even found one that was 17 7/10.
We spent two days doing the Colorado National Monument. The first day we did all of 4 miles. Between taking the different trails, photographing the beautiful cliffs, spires, and land formations, and touring the visitor’s center, we used up our four hours. We saw several big horn sheep, and when I followed them down the road, they joined up with a herd of 20. Trust my camera to freeze on me at that time so I wasn’t able to get the video, and the photos show them really far away…
We followed a bit of the trail than took the cattle from the valley floor to the top of the mesa. Very steep, with switchbacks, and very close to the edge (which is why I didn’t go much further).
We finally bought a “Passport Book” to get date stamps of each place we visit. Now we’ll have to go back to past places–like Brice, Yosemite, Yellowstone–to get those stamps.
We took the Canyon Rim Trail, which really follows the edge of the canyon rim. I didn’t want to get closer than 15 feet as there were no railings anywhere. The closest I had to get was five feet–and that was five feet too close. Chris did the Window Rock trail by himself. When he got there (1/4 mile away) he whistled–came across like he was standing next to me. Sound really travels.
On our way back from the first trip we stopped at Wal-Mart (did I mention it’s RVer’s paradise?). We bought twice as much in junk food. We also bought a new toilet seat (no connection to eating poorly!) as after 10 years the old one had to go.
Today we drove through Colorado National Monument from the other direction. Chris saw a bighorn sheep, but in his excitement he kept pointing and blocked my view entirely as he kept on driving past.
At one point we were encouraged to yell at a rock face 760 feet away. The echo rebounded in less than 2 seconds.
We ended our four hours by checking out Dinasaur Trails. Not enough time to walk the 1 hour trail. We’ll do that tomorrow as well as we found a square dance for the evening–plus the first hour and mainstream the next two with Pat McBride as the caller.
